Following our successful partnership for last year’s Digi-Fayre 2016 digital inclusion event, I’m proud to announce OpenUp Digital will be working again with Bournville Village Trust (BVT) to deliver a series of free digital skills workshops for BVT residents throughout the first half of 2017.
The free workshops, which start on 1st February and run until 15th June, will cover a range of topics, from switching on your laptop or device from the first time through to keeping in touch with friends and family, paying bills and staying safe online.
Promoting digital confidence
Over 100 residents attended last year’s Digi-Fayre event and many of those attendees asked for more help around digital skills and confidence. This shows there is a real appetite amongst residents to get online and become more digitally confident.
It is hoped that free workshops will help residents, particularly older residents, gain the confidence they need to get online and access the benefits of the internet. In so doing, the workshops will make a meaningful contribution to tackling the ‘digital divide’ in Bournville.
Becoming a digital first organisation
Longer term, the BVT hope the digital skills workshops will help them become a ‘digital first’ organisation, with the majority of services provided online. In order to be able to achieve this goal, it is essential as many residents as possible are online and have the skills and confidence they need to access services.
